Session 2: Development of a Board of Directors

As a result of this session, you will learn how to create and maintain governing documents such as Bylaws and learn how to focus your nonprofit on keeping your charter in legal compliance.

Topics: Development Starts with Recruitment, Training/ Evaluation, Roles and Responsibilities for Governance, How to Fire Board Members, Insurance/Bonding, Micro vs Macro Managing, Financial Responsibilities including Banking and Audits, Committees vs Boards.

Suggested attendees: Nonprofit leaders, staff, volunteers; Appropriate for nonprofit organizations including 501(c)3 or 501(c)6

Cost: $99 for micro credential, single course.  For virtual attendees, a Zoom link will be sent a week prior to the session to those who registered. Earned micro credential or certificates earned will only be awarded to those who registered.

About the Presenter:

Presenter: Norma Lansing, IOM, ACE

About the Presenter: Norma retired as President & CEO of the Effingham County Chamber of Commerce in 2021, closing a career that spanned over 40 years in chamber of commerce professional leadership and community involvement. Among the highlights of her career was successfully leading the Chamber to be recognized as a national Chamber of the Year in 2020, being recognized with a Distinguished Illinois Chamber of Commerce Executive Award Recipient, receiving the Individual Leadership Award from the Illinois Workforce Partnership, Outstanding Leadership in Community & Economic Development Award from the East Central Illinois Development Corp., and being named Effingham Citizen of the Year in 2021. She is an Illinois Accredited Chamber Executive and a graduate of Institutes for Organization Management.

Norma is also actively involved in the community as chair of the Effingham Regional Career Academy, Co-Leader, Workforce & Education Team of Effingham County Community Mapping Initiative and serves on the Effingham County Board’s Economic Development Advisory Board, Lake Sara Beach Development Project Committee, I 57/70 Task Force on Human Trafficking and Effingham Noon Rotary Club.

In whatever is left of her spare time, Norma and her husband Ken are world travelers having visited over 20 countries and from coast to coast in the United States. They are preparing to leave in October for Australia and New Zealand. She also enjoys time with her three children, nine grandchildren and two (soon to be three) great-grandchildren.
